Empowering the Next Generation of Technicians

Category: Articles

At Sonic, we believe in putting our tools in the hands of those who are shaping the future. That’s why we created the Sonic Impact Scholarship Program—to recognize and support standout trade school students who are pursuing careers in the skilled trades.

This summer, we’re proud to introduce the first five winners of our 2025 Impact Scholarship. These exceptional students represent the future of the automotive and aviation industries. Their stories, dedication, and alignment with our PACE values – Passion, Accountability, Collaboration, and Experience – inspired us, and we’re excited to be a part of their journey.

The Summer 2025 Impact Scholarship Recipients

Each winner receives a comprehensive toolset built specifically for their trade, providing the foundation they need for hands-on learning and real-world success. The four aviation students each received the Sonic 263-piece Intermediate Aviation Toolset in a Next S9 Toolbox, while our automotive student received the 255-piece Basic Automotive Toolset in a Next S9 Toolbox.

Let’s meet the recipients and celebrate their stories:

Creed Crocket

Universal Technical Institute – Irving, TX

Creed—from Denton, Texas—is all about drive. His love for cars and natural mechanical aptitude stood out in his application. Creed is focused on mastering his craft and making an impact in the shop from day one, and now he’ll be doing that with Sonic tools.

Sydney Pursifull

School of Missionary Aviation Technology – Ionia, MI

From Rochford, Michigan, Sydney is not only preparing for a technical career—she’s working toward a higher mission. Her drive to make a difference through aviation aligns perfectly with our values. Sydney embodies the spirit of passion and purpose, and we’re thrilled to support her with tools she can rely on.

Joseph Reid

Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics – Hagerstown, MD

Hailing from Martinsburg, West Virginia, Joseph stood out for his strong academic performance and unwavering accountability. His commitment to excellence and growth in aviation promises a bright future, and we’re proud to provide him with the tools to match his ambition.

Aaron Insua

National Aviation Academy – Clearwater, FL

From Riverview, Florida, Aaron’s collaborative spirit and work ethic made him a natural choice. He understands that success in aviation relies on teamwork, communication, and the right equipment. Now, with Sonic tools at his side, Aaron is better equipped.

Kevin Farris

Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) – Duluth, GA

Kevin, from Monroe, Georgia, impressed us with his hands-on experience and maturity. With a practical mindset and a deep appreciation for precision, Kevin represents the best of what Sonic tools are built for—real professionals who are ready to put their skills to the test.

Addressing the Technician Shortage, One Student at a Time

The Sonic Impact Scholarship is more than just a giveaway; it’s a direct response to a national need. The technician shortage is affecting industries across the board, from aviation to automotive and manufacturing. At Sonic, we know that tools alone can’t solve the problem, but by supporting the next generation, we can help build a stronger, more prepared workforce.

Each scholarship package is thoughtfully curated in partnership with instructors and industry professionals. The goal is simple: provide students with the professional-grade equipment they need from day one, helping them focus on learning, not on how they’ll afford the tools required to succeed.

“These five exceptional students represent the future of skilled technicians. Each winner demonstrated not only academic excellence but also a commitment to the PACE values of passion, accountability, collaboration, and experience, which drive success in their chosen fields,” said Colby McConnell, our CEO. “By providing them with professional-grade tools, we’re investing in their ability to focus on learning and skill development rather than the financial burden of acquiring essential equipment. I can’t wait to see how these students use Sonic tools to help propel their careers forward.”

Looking Ahead: Fall 2025 Scholarships

This is just the beginning. Sonic will award five more scholarships in November 2025, completing the first year of the program. If you or someone you know is pursuing a career in a technical trade, applications are now open for the fall round.

To apply, students must submit:

  • Proof of enrollment at an accredited program
  • A letter of recommendation from an instructor
  • A 500-word essay on how they exemplify the PACE values
  • A short video explaining how Sonic tools will impact their future
